The MWave modem in my 760cd is completely dead. It worked like a charm
for two weeks, then I made the mistake of dialing my ISP using "pulse",
rather than "tone". Of course this should work, but it caused the modem
to die. Now all I hear is static when I attempt to dial -- sort of like
the sound of an AM radio not tuned to a station. In the far distance I
can hear a dial tone, but it's not loud enough for the modem to grab
onto, thus I receive "no dialtone" messages.
I called IBM and they walked me through possible solutions, but nothing
worked, so back it goes for repairs. I'm sending to Easy Serve in Memphis.
The tech rep said I should get the Thinkpad back in 3 days. Is this a
realistic estimate, or typical IBM propaganda?
Other than my MWave modem woes, the 760cd is an absolute dream. (All the
other MWave functions work, incidentally).
