what do you mean by "the design was not modular" you separate this by only a comma from the comment about non compatibility with other series, but this has nothing to do with modularity. Thinkpads have never bothered to be compatible with themselves, which is I agree annoying, but is a different issue. I am amazed for instance that hard drives on the 760CD are just a couple of millimeters smaller than those on the 750/755 series. You cannot fit a 755 drive in the main hard drive bay of a 760CD, although you can fit it in the left hand bay with the adapter if you are willing to do a bit of carving on the plastic adapter. GRRR!
