i've seen this problem numerous times with first installations of the internet
phone. it's usually the first time someone has used a microphone. for some
reason, the default device input level for the microphone in both mwave and sb
software is all the way down. this default carries over into the win95
multimedia settings. it's a stupid default if you ask me, but it always seems
to be the case, so maybe there's some reason i don't know about. it is also
the default for the mic level to not appear in the program, so you have to add
it into the view to adjust it.
in your program group, open 'volume control,' click on 'properties' in the
'options' menu, and select 'mic' in the list at the bottom. you'll probably
find that the mic level is all the way down. raise it to the same level as
everything else & make sure 'mute' is not checked.
