Re: Hello list

I too tend to a very large flock (or is that a gaggle? :) of 'pads. 700's,
720's, 750's, 360's, 755's (CD, CX, CV, CDV), and 760's (C, CD, LD).

Basically my manager was good enough to recognize when we were going to need
to order new 'pads, and he ordered a ton of them (literally, a ton). The
big problem I have is that with the lines rolling over so quickly, the setup
routines I have are worthless within a year or so. I wish IBM would pick a
'pad, and then offer upgrades, rather than making it extinct so quickly. We
bought quite a few 755CX's, weeks before IBM decided that they didn't want
them any more. Now we can't buy the same machine any more. Ooops!

My other big peeve is with the choices that the people over at IBM are
making in the new models. Sure the MWave machines are cool, but in our
business world, we don't really need them. We also don't need the best
color screen that money can buy. What we do need is the modularity of the
old Thinkpads (and compatibility with older models), with a fairly robust
processor. The 755CX was the last machine that was ideal for us, and had
all of these features. Now you either get modularity, heaped in with MWave,
DIMM only memory, butterfly keyboards, etc., or you get a machine that needs
a watch repairman to fix.

I wish IBM would realize that all of the gadgets are neat selling points,
but some of us want machines that will complement our old machines, not make
us retool ever time we want to upgrade.

...and that's all I gotta say about that.

ps- do I seem grumpy before my first cup of coffee? :( Bite me! :)
