PS/2 keyboard for 701

I attempted to attach a separate keyboard to the 701C. Even if you
ignore the key travel deficit, several common keys (such as DEL and
INS) are inconveniently placed.

The port replicator has PS/2 plugs for both keyboard and mouse.
Having available only a keyboard with an old-fashioned connector, I
went to Radio Shack and got a (DIN ?) to PS/2 pin converter. It
didn't work. IBM said that only REAL PS/2 keyboards would work. And
you have to power down the machine for it to make the change (too
bad; so much of the 701 is hot-configurable).

So, has anybody done this? Can I just buy a cheap PS/2 compatible
keyboard from a parts liquidator? Or does it have to be a very
specific model of keyboard?

Thanks
