I know. I've been around computers long enough to know that story. He's
never used a Thinkpad and doesn't like IBM, so it's the beast. You can, of
course, turn it in for something else, but there are 100s of us out here
running Win95 just fine on our Thinkpads (the one I use every day happens to
be a 755CX -- although it may be running Linux soon!).

At any rate, I still suspect that it's not actually using the Win95 socket
services. Did you actually try it with no autoexec.bat or config.sys?
