Re: 701, win95 and Panasonic PCMCIA CD-ROM

The 'factory refurbished' Panasonic CD-ROM that USA FLEX is selling
for $149 is the KXL-D720. I have run it without trouble under
DOS/Win3.1 on the 701. I believe there is a Win95 driver on the
Panasonic web page though I haven't tried it. The CD-ROM has a single
female mini high density SCSI-2 socket, thus the cable from the PC
Card is a high density SCSI-2 male. It should work with other SCSI
devices although I haven't tried it yet. I have an Iomega Zip, but I
need additional cables/adapters to make the appropriate connections.

The down side: the PC Card is not supported under OS/2 or Linux. Is
it proprietary? Well that's a good question. I have been trying for
months to get information out of Panasonic to let me program it with
little success.
