We have one 760ED. It's our first and only Thinkpad, running Windows
3.1. I have had 3 significant problems that are in various states:
1. The MPEG system got crippled. IBM never could figure how, but the
problem is gone and was probably due to an interupt conflict caused by
my 3c589c card or by misconfiguration by the PCMCIA for Windows
utility. I could have also been the inadvertant cause of the problem.
2. Win32s problems, caused by Procomm Plus 3.0's installation
slaughtering of the installed driver. After cleaning out 3 files in
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM that Win32s uses, and then re-installing, the
problem went away. It's not a Thinkpad problem, except that it uses
Win32s for the multimedia drivers.
3. After being on for about 5-8 hours, the system locks up, whether
in Windows or in DOS. I'm sending it back for repair. The BIOS test
would go fruity during this time, locking up or creating a fractured
image. This is now the most serious of the problems. Obviously, heat
is a suspect.
I agree with the other comments about having to press more than usual
on the keyboard. MPEG is nice - it's fun to show the 30MB 1 minute
set of clips from "True Lies" that IBM includes on their MPEG sampler
CD. Speakers are good and we currently have no dead pixels. The
modem works fine for surfing the Web.
