Yep. These are digital phones run off of cards within the PBX. The lines
provide added information such as flashing voice mail, name/caller ID etc.
and the signals passed are quite different from normal analogue/digital
lines. Analogue modems don't stand a chance with these..
I don't know the best way to check what type of line is which, as they both
use the same cabling structure, but I guess avoid any phones with the words
"Meridian" or any other PBX manafacturer blazened over them, or with special
digital features.
