You mean neoprene?  The material whose raison d'etre is to thermally
insulate things?  If the bottom of your laptop is in full contact with
the stuff, then don't count on cooling air circulation.  (I have one of
the wetsuit laptop cases, and have to remove my TP701 from it when using
it or else the machine shuts down very very quickly from the heat.)

For lap use I strongly recommend the laptop desk from Levenger in New
York.  This is a large, kidney-shaped piece of very thin furniture-grade
plywood.  It is very lightweight and comfortable, nice to look at, and
the hold-down straps are genuinely useful.  Moreover - unusual for
Levenger - it is reasonably priced (I don't remember the exact price,
if there's interest I can look it up).
