All 701 owners should note that the 701 can take both NiCd and
NiMH batteries. If you have battery-related information or
problems, please be sure to identify which type of battery
you're talking about.
Generally, the 701's NiMH batteries seem to cause much less
grief than the NiCd. They last longer too (around 3 hours for
mine). IBM claims the 701's NiMH is designed to avoid the high
discharge rate other NiMHs have, and to my experience this has
been true (I've got a spare that's sat for over a month holding
nearly a full charge). The downside of this is that they
recommend you not discharge it (the NiMH) fully as that can
degrade its capacity.
