PC card woes on 701/Win95

Any help with the following problem would be much appreciated:

I've recently upgraded my 701 to Win95.  Everything works fine except my
3Com Ethernet card (an Etherlink III, 3c589c).  Despite persistent
fiddling, I cannot get the network adapter working.  It is always marked
with a yellow exclamation point in the Device Manager window of the
System Control panel.  

Have tried the drivers that ship with Win95 as well as the latest from
3com.  None seem to work.  Have (of course) upgraded TP BIOS and
installed Win95 enhancements disk from IBM.  Still no luck.

Help!
