I replaced my 340 MB HD with 1.2 GB IBM DPRA-21250 and
a 1.3 GB Toshiba MK-1301 drives in two caddies (one from
my original 340 MB HD and one from a colleagues 170 MB HD.
The currently released BIOS remaps both drives from their
original "geometry" into something with less than 1024
cylinders so any partition on the disk is bootable. The
APM suspend/hibernation etc all work just the same as in
the original system. The only problem I have is that the
startup power drain from these new drives pulls down the
battery output so far the system begins to power on and
goes immediately into critical low battery suspend state.
Once I start the system with the adaptor plugged into the
wall it will run for hours on the same battery. It would
be nice to have another solution for system startup.
