Subject: Upgrading TP755

Hi,
I recently bought a 755c, the DX2-50 model, and what I was wondering
is, has anyone tried fitting an AMD 5x86 chip in this or any other
Thinkpad. I know it -should- work, at 100MHz, as the existing chip is a
3.3v 486SL chip with a 25MHz external bus. However, I'd like to hear
from anyone who has tried this (or any other overdrive-type chip) before
I shell out a fortune on having it fitted.
I believe this one had an official upgrade path in form of a small pc board
with a 75Mhz DX-4 on it.
Your best bet is therefore to find some kind soul who has done this and
beg the the old 50Mhz version of him/her.
Then buy the $45 AMD and unsolder the old............
OR talk to the 2 or 3 laptop upgrade companies .....I believe that two of
them even lurk around here. pepsales??
OR talk to IBM's factory oulet they sometimes have parts.
The official prices for the 50 and 75Mhz boards are amusing
Note your cost could very low if you can find an old board.

Also - what is the maximum capacity internal hard-disk on the TP755? I'm
currently using a 540MB but it's a bit restrictive for running Win95
-and- Linux.

Finally - roughly how much should I expect to pay for a secondhand Dock
II? I've been offered one but I don't know if the price is any good.
