Hmmm, no repsonses yet. Usually, these modem threads start with me
claiming how much success I've had with the modem simply using:
at&f1&c1&k3
by going into the registry and editing the default settings for the
modem. (I also change the hangup string to a simple ATH). Then other people
come on and say stuff like "Big deal, that would work on any modem" or
"That's redundant, 'cause the f1 sets to factory default and the c1&k3
alter the compression settings to the same thing as the defaults, so at&f1
would be just as good..."
Then would come the serious string tweakers, talking about line noise,
compression schemes, start and stop bits, UART chips, S-registers and so
on, and before long folks are delving into the fact that modem is a
contraction of MODblahblah EMublah, and bandwidth, and T1s and T3s, and
fiber optic technology, and I'd sort of tune the thread out until it died
from there.
But I still use the above string!
