TP/Zip/CDROM

Greetings!

  | TP 750C | | Iomega | | Panasonic |
  | DOS 6.22    |<--->| Zip    |<--->| KXL-D720  |
  | Win 3.11 | | Drive | | 2X CDROM |
  | 20 MB RAM | | (SCSI) |
  | 340 MB HD |
  | SCSI PCMCIA |

If you have experience with a similar setup, I would really like to hear
you comments on a few problems.

The SCSI PCMCIA card is the one which came with the Panasonic CD-ROM
drive. Physically, the components are linked in the order shown above; the
total length of cable (including adapters) is less than 3 feet. The Zip
drive is NOT set to be a terminator. Recently I had to re-install the
whole system, and I'm having trouble getting everything running smoothly.
I have juggled a few parameters without a lot of success. Do you have a
copy of a CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT that I could look at?
Suggestions?... Basically the system hangs *sometimes* (the problem is not
exactly reproducible!) either when looking for a drive letter for the Zip
Drive, or soon afterwards (the HD drive activity remains ON, by the way).

Also, intermittently, on leaving Windows or soon after that, the system
hangs and says that EMM386 has detected an error #6. Does anyone have a
list of these errors? And since we're on the EMM topic, what memory can
be included and excluded to optimize memory usage? HELP EMM386.EXE NOTES
suggests that SMARTDRV /double_buffer should be included in CONFIG.SYS
when SCSI devices are used. Does anyone have any idea why? And should this
be included before or after EMM386 gets loaded? (I have tried both and
noticed no difference, but as my system is acting up every now and then,
I can't be conclusive about this.)

Enough questions for a single message. Many thanks in anticipation for
your comments on these issues - especially in getting the Zip drive and
CD-ROM to communicate flawlessly with the old TP...
