TP750Cs vs. Windows 95 -- Success!!!

Well, I finally managed to get Windows 95 installed on my TP750Cs
-- with all of the necessary drivers -- in dual boot configuration
-- so I can alternatively boot either Windows 3.1, Windows 95, or
boot Windows 3.1 to load LINUX from the command line prompt.

Strangely, the PCMCIA indicator LED does not light when using the
MS Win95 PCIC (PCMCIA slot controller) driver. The drivers which
came with Win95 seem to work just fine for the Western Digital
WD90C24 video, PCMCIA controller, Adaptec SlimSCSI, and 3C589B
cards. The Thinkpad audio disk failed to insert a reference to
the Thinkpad Audio Driver into Win95's .INI files -- but all of
the essential files were in the right place -- a manual editing
of the appropriate .INI file set everything up correctly. But, I
couldn't find an MCI device control driver for audio volume which
could be used by Win95 applications -- so I have to rely on IBM's
volume control applet (and the Fn-F5/Fn-F6 keys) for vol control.

I also had to manually edit the path to include WIN95, WIN95/SYSTEM,
WIN31, WIN31/SYSTEM -- and manually combine the two PROGMAN.INI in
preparation for running grpconv /s to automatically build the START
menu items for all of the old WIN31 applications.

Everything seems to work OK now. I would strongly recommend against
installing the Win95 intended for installation on a new machine for
use with the TP750Cs. The Win95 Upgrade CDROM is much more flexible,
includes an option to delete Win95 entirely and restore the original
DOS/Win3.1 system configuration, and provides for dual boot options.
The MS Win95 Resource Kit Book/CDROM was also extremely helpful.
