After numerous attempts spanning several weeks checking a multitude of settings several of you suggested -- not to mention 90 minutes with a senior MS tech engineer -- I gave up trying to get Direct Cable Connection to work as between my 701c & desktop, both running Win95. My primary goal was to access the desktop's CD rom drive.
