If I'm not mistaken, there's also a metal plate imbedded in the neoprene to act as a shield for the back of the lid (read LCD). I don't worry too much about my 701 not having enough padding. It's survived several naked falls onto carpeting and hardwood floors without incident (the one which nearly killed it was onto a tile surface - don't ask :). What I *do* worry about is a small object poking into it (like a mislaid cable plug or AC adapter prong) while it's in the bag. I make sure to put a stiff clipboard or hardcover book next to the computer whenever possible. That distributes the load from anything that might poke through the LCD. What I'd really like is some sort of stiff frame which could do the job of the clipboard/book full-time. When I'm not carrying the computer, it would also help maintain the shape of the backpack or shoulder bag. -- John H. Kim kim@mak.com
