Windows/Win-OS/2 will not politely share access to the sound
card. OS/2 will give Windows access to the soundcard and then
Windows will hang on to it until it is closed. The configuration
of the pre-install(local stores in Victoria) had OS/2 system
sound enabled and windows sound enabled. Switching back to the
desktop would consistently cause a hardware trap like you
described.
If you want windows sound card access.....disable OS/2 system
sound to prevent this hardware conflict.
You may also want to seek out ;

discussions.
Happy Warping!
