I thought it might interest you that if you go to the Pep Sales web pages 
you'll see that the upgrade that is available for the 701C DX2-50 is the 
AMD586-100.  I don't know exactly how these compare but my general 
impression is that it would be about a 30-50% boost - not true Pentium 
power but a step in that direction.  Those of you with more technical 
expertise than I could probably run the benchmarks.

I asked a couple of days ago (via e-mail off the Web site) for a price 
quote on the CPU-only upgrade (since I've already done the memory myself; 
and am satisfied with my hard drive).  I haven't gotten a reply yet but 
those of you interested may want to visit the Pep Sales web site since 
they have a very complete table indicating what upgrades they have for 
what models of Thinkpads.
