At speeds above 4x, I'd avoid parallel port versions.  I don't
recall what the (practical )bandwidth of a EPP/ECP is, but I'm
pretty sure it's around 4x speed.  Beyond that, a faster drive
won't help or will even perform worse.

Unless you're only going to use Win95/NT or OS/2, AVOID the
Panasonic 8x KXL-D750 unit.  It seems to be a non-standard SCSI2
device.  After trying to get it to work with Linux for several
days, I asked for help and learned that David Hinds (author of
the PCMCIA stuff for Linux) said the model was unlikely to ever
work with Linux.  The KXL-D740 4x drive and SCSI card works fine
under Linux.  The DXL-D745 is supposed to work too, but the
included PCMCIA SCSI card has no Linux drivers.
