I think he's talking about the insertable CD-ROM that can go into the very
modular 760's.

Since that is likely the case, its simply not a possibility on the 701's.

However, there are plenty of external CD-ROM solutions that would likely
work fine. Portable numbers, small & lightweight (or not so small), either
connected through a PCMCIA card or via your parallel port.

I recently got a really cheapo "Backpack" 4x CD-ROM drive that hooks up to
the parallel port. Paid a whopping $180 for a re-packed-in-the-box model
(I think it was normally about $230 or $250). I would perhaps have
preferred one of those ultralight numbers, but it would have cost twice as
much. And this parallel number has the added advantage of being able to be
ported to other machines easily (my spouse's work machine or my own work
machine, neither of which have CD-ROM's, but where I might like to install
my own software from CD-ROM).
