The show (at least one of them) was 20/20. While they mentioned laptop computers they also
stated that all sorts of carry on bags were being stolen this way. This is actually one
good reason to ask for a hand inspection of your laptop. I do this and then ask the
security to keep an eye on it (they usually hold it) while I go through the magnet. I
think that people who want to steal laptops know what most laptop cases look like. I
bought a Port case for my 701C and it came with a nice ThinkPad luggage tag. After a few
trips I realized that it was like painting "ThinkPad steal me" on the side of the case. so
now I use the tag on my garment bag or suitcase.
