Hi,
I just bought an IBM 2.1GB drive (model DTNA-22160) for my TP701. Since I
don't plan to use the old 360MB drive, I opted for a naked drive (without
caddy) to be mounted in the original caddy.
I had to drill 4 new holes in the caddy because the maintaining screws of
the new drive are located in a different place (since the 2.5"/12.7mm
drives appear to have exactly the same form factor, can't they all put
their holes in the same place?!).
Anyway, I have a couple of questions:
1) there are 4 pins on one side that are left unconnected: on the old
drive, there's a jumper on the outer pair; the new drive came with no
jumper at all. Should I move the jumper to the new drive? What is the
purpose of the 4 unconnected pins? (sorry, there was no manual included
with the drive).
2) the old drive was wrapped into an adhesive plastic film, probably meant
to protect it. Should I remove it and apply it to the new drive? If this
is of any relevance, I don't plan to remove the caddy from my TP once it's
installed. As for the old drive, I plan to install it in my old Compaq
Aero.
Thanks in advance for your enlightened comments,
Dominique
