I use one from Silicon Sports, it's a light, hard, thin, foam-coated
platform that the laptop sits on, with a wrist-rest attached to one side.
I got it at Good Guys, a local consumer electronics chain, for ~$20. I
imagine you might be able to find a mail order house that carries them.
My wife uses one from Kensington Sports that costs the same, it has a hard
plastic frame around the wrist-rest (the part your hands touch is padded)
and is shaped a bit differently. I don't like this one, but she likes it
fine. I got it at www.isn.com, and I believe they'll accept a return if
you don't like it.
Neither of these are gel-filled.
The thing I like about these "platform" types is that you can use them fine
on your lap, in fact, I still use it, turned upside down (wrist-rest in
back) even though I switched to a 560.
They make the heat much easier to bear (I used to set my laptop on a book
to prevent groin-scorch).
