The flicker is caused by a low scan rate (probably split-scanning at
that resolution), and extra memory wouldn't help much. It is *mainly* a
function of monitor speed and video card speed. Very few video cards can
drive most monitors at this resolution at the ergonometric minimum 70hz
refresh rate. This is especially true if your NEC is more than 2 years
old. You'll need a *much* more expensive card; make sure before
you buy it that it can drive your particular model monitor at your
desired resolution/color depth at 70hz or better [best is 80 or more]
before you buy it. Specific monitor model is important; for example,
my Hercules Stingray card can drive a NEC 5fg at VGA true color at 90hz,
but the similar NEC 5v series monitors will only display this res at
70hz.
I don't know what kind of database Matrox has for card/monitor
combinations; Hercules used to keep all this information on-line
(I like Herc for their support).
I think you expected too much from a $50 card!
