Not age - model; over the last couple of years monitors have been
engineered to scan at higher frequencies with less effort on the part of
the video card.  This year's bottom-end NEC can scan at rates that only
high-end NECs could do in '94.  Incidentally, you can't tell this from
published monitor specs alone - for example, the NEC 5FGe models
advertised a horizontal scan rate at 75hz VGA true color, but some cards
(including my Hercules) can drive it at 90hz.

I'll bet with the same card and resolution it would look horrible on the
FGe models (as opposed to the FGp models).
