Linux sound and PCMCIA works like a champ.

There is no support at the moment for IrDA with Linux, however
on my IBM560 sound, PCMCIA, APM, Suspend, Hybernation, etc
all work perfectly. When in suspend mode, it comes on in less
than two seconds. I get about 2.5hour battery life. I have
PCMCIA cards for scsi (cdrom and JAZ), ethernet, and modem.
I swapped out the 1 gig drive for a 2 gig drive. That cost
a few hundred $, but was worth it. The video is a 1152 900 virtual
screen with 8 virtual desktops. I have one with netscape, one for my
calendar, 1 for matlab, and the rest for general fooling around.
16 bit color also works fine, but with only 1MB of video ram, you
loose the virtual screen (but not the virtual desk-tops). Thus
I only use 16bit color rarely.
I also plug a mouse in the back, which works in parallel with the
little erasure-head mouse, which gets hard on the finger after a full
day.

I forgot, there is one problem with APM. If you use the floppy,
the suspend works one time, but after the first suspend, it fails
to suspend. It is necessary to reboot to restore suspend after
using the floppy. Being networked, I rarely use the floppy however.
