fatigue - sheer fatigue in trying to get it sorted out.  as i recall i would
'deselect' it in the appropriate place, but each time i rebooted win95 
would go through its whole 'new hardware found' routine, and invariably the
result would be some conflict or another.  it was taking too much time from
my work, so in the end the simplest thing was to take the damn thing out so
it could not cause any problems.  and this was long after our computer people
told me i should just give up on it ... they were not encountering these 
kinds of problems in other (non-thinkpad) notebooks.
