question for UK Thinkpad owners

Hi,

An English friend is in the US for a couple of weeks, and he's thinking of
buying a TP560 while he's here (since the current US price is ridiculously
low right now).  He has two questions, which I couldn't answer for him:

(1) Will he have service problems when he returns to the UK?  (My impression
	was that all he has to do is somehow reregister the machine...?)

(2) How does he get the pound sign?  (I assume that the Windows95 British English
	setting will reassign some character to the pound - but, if it is the US dollar
	sign, what happens to programs like TeX which use this symbol?)
