[TP340] Re: Thinkpad 340 questions

Even 12 megs of memory is pretty small for W95 - it only really becomes usable at
16 megs, and pleasant at 24 megs. With your configuration, the main thing is to
keep the number of simultaneously-running apps (including OS stuff) at a minimum.

Should be, unless you have power management on to conserve your (dead) battery.

Use the Drivespace version 3 that comes with Plus (or with the more recent OEM
version of W95); the version of drivespace that came with the old W95 was less stable.
For maximum safety, don't compress the whole drive - leave an uncompressed
partition containing critical files (system, etc). Of course, with only 120 megs total
this doesn't leave you much to compress!

> Is the small space left on the HD really slowing the computer down?

Could be - your virtual memory cache has probably shrunk to nearly zero. However,
drivespace might not help here, since you're not really supposed to use a compressed
partition for your VM cache.

Different battery technology (nicad vs. lead acid), though you might eventually
get some corrosion followed by leakage. I would check the battery every so often
for damage. However, charging shouldn't have an effect.
