Yeah, if you can, take it back and get a refund.  I called Western Digital
because I was thinking of getting the same thing for my 701 to use
with OS/2.  They said it only works with Windows 3.1, and maybe DOS,
and that they discontinued it because of it's various problems.

Normally, PCMCIA isn't that hard to configure, and personally I find
them easier than some ISA cards to configure, especially where I can
give nonstandard I/O and IRQs, so they don't conflict.  You might want to opt
for a ZIP drive if you need large removable storage medium.
