I can't take credit for the work around.  Somebody else came up with
the idea and posted it to comp.sys.laptops.  I didn't save the message
but whoever thought of the work around must have known just enough
information about how Windows 95 implements its PC card support to
figure out which files needed to be replaced.  Thanks to whoever he
was!
