Sounds like a cable connection problem. Sometimes my testbench
LCD does that, which is a mono LCD connected to an ISA card. It happens
when the cable is loose.
On average, I'd say a mono LCD costs about $25-500, depending on where you
get it, especially if you get it from overpriced IBM's stock.
