Thanks to all who gave advice. Here's an update of a most trying experience: On Sunday, I went back to the shop to get the 560 exchanged. Sales person tests out the only other 2 sets of the same model. One of them has unacceptable dead pixels. The other had the same flickering problem. Sales person orders more stock from warehouse. On Tuesday, I went to get it exchanged again. This time we discovered that it works fine with just the AC without the battery and it seems the problem is caused by the battery. We tried another battery which also gave the same problem. I was finally given a new machine with another battery. Trying it out it worked fine. Upon reaching home, I started to work with it but 2 hours later the problem came back again. Removing the battery and running it just on AC got rid of the flickering. Help! It can't be that all the batteries are faulty or all the 560 are having problems right? Is this a known problem? I just hate to think that I have to go back a fourth time! My dream of owning a Thinkpad (my 1st Notebook) is turning into a bad dream ..... :-( My boss will laugh his head off now. He had told me to expect problems with Thinkpads, to which I insisted that he was being bias. Now I'm not quite sure ....... Anyone also thinking of getting this model should check very carefully. Well, today I bought myself a Thinkpad 560, with the following conifguration: P133 mhz ( yup, no L2 cache ) 40 mb RAM ( but this should make up for it!) 1.08 gb HDD 12.1" TFT screen 56K Xircom PC Card I got it at a decent price coz it's not the newest model. So far I'm quite happy with it except for one thing: The screen would once in a while flicker faintly, no streaks or anything like that, just a bit like when you adjust the brightness button and it slightly flickers while changing brightness. It happens both on AC as well as battery. So far have not noticed any particular sequence or pattern that goes with it. Since I've never owned a notebook before, can anyone tell me whether this is normal for a new machine? Does anyone have this same problem?
