I just sent my 755CE in for service for the second time in three years.
IBM will include an inventory sheet with the box they send you to ship
the computer back to them wherein you can list everything you're sending
in with the basic Thinkpad itself. The amount of detail in this sheet
has really improved since I last saw one, it now even includes the little
bezels and other small stuff that can be a big pain if lost.
My problem is the left mouse (trackpoint) button (was the first time
too, Lexmark is not one of my favorite companies at this point...) so
I pulled all the removable stuff (floppy, memory, battery, hard disk)
out - why take chances? The new IBM form also has a very hard to miss
block in the center where they explain if there's a hard disk problem
you could lose all data on the old one, you need to back up first and
then sign it so they'll know you're aware and prepared for this.
If I had to send in the battery I'd take it out of the computer first.
Mine arrived from IBM that way, it seems pretty heavy to leave in as
shipping involves some bouncing around...
