Personally, it seems strange to me to spend thinkpad type money and then starve the machine for memory. I think you do better to buy a less powerful machine with decent memory than a more powerful one that is starved. THese days 32M is an absolute reasonable minimum. Check out the prices on memory upgrades, they have got MUCH cheaper. I bought 64meg chips for my 770 from Kingston (certainly a high quality supplier) for $320 a piece.
