right, that's the theory (upgrades possible), but as several articles
have suggested, the theory may not be 100% practice (rememebr all those
early machines that were shipped with processor upgrade sockets that could
never be filled by anything that anyone actually manufactured!) It could
be that these articles are unfounded FUD, but it is worth making sure
that the modem you get comes with an enforcable guarantee that an upgrade
will indeed be possible and practical.

The practical is important, after all Intel would provide upgrades for
all bad Pentiums on request, but millions did not bother because it
was impractical to do the swap.

Incidentally, the MWAVE modem should definitely be upgradable, and IBM
has said they will ship this (100% software) upgrade when the standard
is settled. At least that is my nderstanding.
