I had this problem on my 760EL running W95 with Shiva for dial-up. I fixed
it by removing the LLC2 protocol in the W95 network setup (does anyone know
whether an updated LLC2 driver exists?). You might also try MS-support
article Q171195 (if you're using DLC).
