Finally found it - doesn't show anything wrong (except the 'usual' game port
problem)

I tried a couple of 'smaller' configurations, but still couldn't boot to safe
mode.  The problem is that some problems - especially in the way things are
entered in the registry - are invisible *except* in safe mode, so I'm in a
sort of Catch-22 situation.
