Re: Solaris x86 on 770?
Josh,
I have a 765D (not on the HCL) and it runs 2.5.1
OK. There is a problem with the original PCMCIA
driver in 2.6 with > 64 MB of RAM in my 765D and
in (at least) some 380 models. I just got a new
PCMCIA driver this week from Sun and it works with
2.6 and 104 MB of RAM. It was developed for a 770
that Sun Central has been working with.
So, Sun's position is that they are not supporting
new notebooks but they actually are doing (at least)
some development for newer notebooks.
I have a Sun software maintenance contract for the
OS and have gotten the "not supported" response. I'm
not happy about that but there may be a glimmer of
hope for certain newer models of notebooks.
x86 is quite a cheap experiment for educational
customers (< $100). Make sure you use DU2 to load
if you try it - 2.6 didn't load correctly with
the distribution boot diskette on my 765D.
