A few months ago my 701c began blanking to a white screen
at random moments. I finally sent it in. It came back so fast I thought I
had mis addressed the carton. They stuck a new LCD panel in it and
it is again fine. The new panel has one pixel stuck on
red, but it is in a corner and no big deal. Can't help but wonder
if they even checked for a cable problem. I have an idea they have
a bunch of 10.4 screens with no future, so they don't waste any valuable
time when they have the screens available.
Two days after getting it back, I noticed a crack in the lid half way up
the right side. Don't know if it was there before or not, but I am
going to open the lid up and see if I can reinforce the area.
Also saw a posting on a newgroup about surplus direct selling refurbished
701c's for $476.00. For that price, I figured I would get one. A couple
of days later, I saw some posts to the effect that people where being
told their orders were no good because they had run out of the 701c at
476, but they did have some for about 200 dollars more. I knew it, too
good to be true. ut then the machine showed up, so I guess surplus direct
really did have some at 476. Anyway, the machine came with a nimh battery,
floppy, 720 HD, cables and small ac adapter. Only the manuals were
not included, but I already have those. Software was limited to PC-DOS 7.
The only sign of use is the same crack my case has. The screen has no
bad pixels, and the battery seems to be new, so I am pretty happy. Was
planning on getting something more powerful, but this will work as a backup
or email machine.
