It comes from (I believe) picking up the machine while it is closed with your right hand. If you orient the machine to face you, close it, and pick it up with your right hand, your thumb falls almost exactly on the crack. IBM refused to fix my crack claiming that I made it (not true, they made it themselves during an easy-serv). I used some clear epoxy on it and that held for about a year, but the epoxy failed because once again, that's where I put my thumb to pick up the machine. -- John H. Kim kim@mak.com
