I think here's an interesting psychological effect here. Anyone who's accustomed to a 4 pound machine (e.g. Randal, me) will see a 5 pound machine as a 25% increase, which is quite noticeable and substantial. Anyone who is used to 7 pound machines will perceive the difference on the '7 pound scale', i.e. a difference of 1/7, or less than 15%.
BTW, I think in practice the 1/4" thickness differential is negligible, but the 1" depth differential is very important - the machine will no longer be the depth of a standard sheet of US paper. For me, moving to the 560 from the 701 was most annoying in that the width increased from less than the length of a standard page to greater than it. Almost made me switch to A4.
