Perhaps the arrangement between NeoMagic and Xi is based on NeoMagic getting 
paid based on Xi server sales, which would have less of an effect on the 
bottom line of a small company than paying a sizable up-front licensing fee.

That was my expectation as well, but your mention of the "nominal fee" 
made me think that you must have found the price somewhere, so I decided
to have a look at their Web site to see if that amount came from there.
