I have similar experiences with my ThinkPad 380ED and the Debian Linux
distribution. Before, I had no problems with the Slackware
distribution, but as I use Debian on my other system also I installed
it on my ThinkPad.

My experience says that it does not depend on the kernel (I used the
Slackware kernel, which worked well with the Slackware distribution,
with the Debian distribution and had still problems with
suspend/resume).

More specifically, the ThinkPad does not really "hang", but the
display stays blank after typing. When I type the passwd of the
laptop, the lock symbol appears (only _after_ typing) and disappears
again. The display stays blank, but I can give Unix commands and even
shutdown the machine properly.

After a month of gathering information, I still have not a clue.

Bye,
