I ran Debian alongside Warp 3 at one time on my 701, and it ran quite nicely, faster than Windows 95
(which I erased and gave to Linux anyways).

If cost isn't a major issue, then you can go with either Linux (free, except for the price of a CD-ROM)
or something like SCO UNIX or Sun Solaris. I don't know much about SCO, all I know about Solaris
is that it doesn't work on my SPARCbook (for some unknown reason).

For a word processor, many people like emacs or xemacs. I've never really used it, because my stupid
486 motherboards died (I've gone through 3 this month!), so I can't practice. I think there is an x spreadsheet
also. Are you primarily going to run in VIO (text mode) or GUI? I suppose you might also be able to use
vi for word processing as well.

Sun? SCO?

Good luck.

Oh, BTW, I forgot, what machine is this all going on?
