While I was in Korea I ran across an unbelievable number of SoundBlaster
copycats.  Apparently the chipset is very cheap and the hardware is very
simple.  The smallest I saw was a 1/3 height 8-bit card, barely larger than
a PCMCIA card.  Of course the sound quality left much to be desired.

So it *should* be possible to make a hardware SB in PCMCIA format.  I think
the hangup is that the Yamaha chipset isn't the right size/voltage/whatever,
and Yamaha isn't making any smaller ones.  So everyone is making their own
chipset and relying on software to do the emulation.

Of course the SB is so old it's high time we got a new standard...
