o CompuServe WinCIM Power Series Edition (NT only)
o Introducing Your IBM ThinkPad Power Series 850 (NT only)
Essentials! is a Windows application which contains a customer
registration program, a catalog of supported options and adapters and
an overview of the IBM HelpWare(R) support coverage.
Power, Performance, Potential is a multimedia presentation which uses
three dimensional audio and artwork-quality graphics to introduce the
user to key Power Series technology and marketing messages. Since
this application consumes a significant amount of hardfile space, IBM
has also provided a "Remove PPP" utility which allows the user to
reclaim this space for other applications.
For users who also purchase a modem with their Power Series system, a
personalized version of the CompuServe WinCIM application is provided
for quick and easy access to the CompuServe Power Series forum.
Power Series product announcements, updates of system software,
device drivers and other important information will be provided on
this key forum which focuses on the needs of application developers
and large corporate users. This software includes information about
obtaining a complementary CompuServe subscription worth one month of
basic services and a $15 usage credit.
In an effort to reduce desktop clutter and leverage powerful
multimedia presentation tools within Windows NT, IBM has provided a
CD-ROM- based system manual. Introducing Your IBM ThinkPad Power
Series 850 provides an audio/video overview of the features of the
new IBM ThinkPad Power Series 850 systems.
If a user elects to remove these applications from the hardfile or in
the event of a hardfile failure, IBM has also provided additional
software on the Program Pack to re-create the original preload image
on the hardfile.
Carrying Cases
With the IBM ThinkPad Power Series 850, you also get a Personal
Carrying Cases for ThinkPad catalog by Port, Inc. The catalog
features a special line of cases designed to comfortably carry the

common drops and bumps, with most offering a unique shock-absorbing
system that provides greater protection than simple foam padding.
Cases are available in a variety of sizes and styles to satisfy
individual needs and tastes. You can order the cases through IBM, at
the original place of purchase or directly from Port, Inc.
These products are solely a Port, Inc., offering. IBM does not

respectively.
o G10 Graphics with Motion Video is supported in a operating system
environment only. Support may vary by operating system.
o G10 Graphics with Motion Video Adapter supports NTSC composite
video input and output, and PAL composite video input only.
o This system has limitations in the use of the DCBZ and MTMSR
instructions. Programmers should consult the programming
guidelines area of the IBM Power Series Systems Products and
Solutions home page on the World Wide Web, URL:
http//www.austin.ibm.com/powrinfo.html, before using either
instruction.
o Audio functions are supported only in the operating system
environment. Audio support may vary by operating system.
o The power management function is implemented in the operating
system environment, which will affect the expected battery life.
o The system is designed so you can install or remove the PCMCIA
card without turning off the system, if the PCMCIA card and
operating system selected supports this function. Refer to the
PCMCIA card instructions.
o When the system is working under some operating systems, removal
and installation of a PCMCIA card may not be supported during the
power-on state.
o When installing two Type II PCMCIA communications cards in the

Security, Auditability, and Control
Standard Security Features
o Passwords
- A power-on password (POP) helps protect the system from
unauthorized use. If a POP is set, the password prompt
appears:
-- Each time the system is turned on
-- When the system is returned to normal operation from Suspend
mode if implemented by the operating system
- A supervisor password provides a higher level of security than
the POP. The supervisor password protects the system functions
from being used by unauthorized users and protects the hardware
configuration from unauthorized modification. If the
supervisor password has been set, the system will prompt the
user to enter a password when trying to access configuration or
startup sequence sub-menus of Easy-Setup.
o The user can connect the hook on the locking mechanism to a leash
with a user-selected padlock and chain or cable.
o The system is Vital Product Data (VPD) enabled. VPD is a software
system identification method.
World Trade Considerations: The IBM ThinkPad Power Series 850 system
supports an icon-based interface that eliminates the need for
National Language translation. To configure the system, you select
icons from an easily understandable menu.
National Language Support is also dependent on the operating system
used. Refer to the operating system manuals to determine support for
a particular country.
User management is responsible for evaluation, selection, and
implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and
appropriate controls in application systems and communications
facilities.
